Malta visa appointment in the UK: London, Manchester, Edinburgh

A traveller smiling at a phone in the city

VisaBot is independent of VFS Global and the High Commission of Malta; the Maltese authorities alone decide on Malta visas.

In the UK, Malta visa appointments are booked online with VFS Global, whose centres in London, Manchester and Edinburgh take applications for the High Commission of Malta in London. VisaBot scans the Malta calendar at your chosen centre, then sends an alert or, with AutoBooking, books the date in your name. The High Commission decides on the visa.

A traveller framing a shot with a camera

From a released Malta date to an appointment in your name

VFS Global takes Malta bookings solely through its online portal, and its contact centre cannot say when new dates will appear.

  1. 1

    Pick a centre to watch

Choose London, Manchester or Edinburgh; VisaBot then scans that centre's Short Stay Visa calendar for Malta day and night.

  2. 2

Notifications: an alert, then you book

A push alert arrives in the app, or by email as an add-on, and you book the date on the VFS Global portal yourself.

  3. 3

AutoBooking: one date for the group

The bot books a date for up to five applicants in their names: a prepayment per applicant first, the balance after booking.

  4. 4

No date window, no photo upload

Malta AutoBooking has no date-range setting and needs no passport photo, selfie or live face scan at booking.

No subscription can release Malta dates VFS Global has not opened, change a confirmed date or sway the High Commission.

Malta visa centres in the UK: London and two satellite centres

Every applicant, children included, applies in person on a booked date. Manchester and Edinburgh files reach the High Commission via VFS Global's London office.

London — VFS Global

Visa Application Centre, 66 Wilson Street, London EC2A 2BT. Files go from here to the High Commission with no extra transfer days.

Manchester — VFS Global

Visa Application Centre, 50 Devonshire Street North, Manchester M12 6JH. Files pass through London, so VFS advises three extra working days.

Edinburgh — VFS Global

Malta Visa Application Centre, 1 Rennie's Isle, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6QT. Files are forwarded via London, and the centre has no car parking.

Pick a centre every applicant can reach on the day: nobody can attend in another person's place. If you fly soon, London saves the transfer days.

One booking category for Malta, five purposes behind it

Short Stay Visa is the one Malta category VisaBot can watch in the UK. VFS Global splits short stays by purpose, which sets your documents, not your calendar.

Short Stay Visa
Book it for any Malta stay of up to 90 days; alerts and AutoBooking work in all three cities.
Tourist
Holidays and sightseeing with your own hotel, hostel or B&B booking.
Visitor Family/Friends
Staying with family or friends who live legally in Malta.
Business
Meetings, deals or training, with an invitation letter from a Maltese company.
EEA/EU and Swiss national family member
Spouses, registered partners, parents and children travelling with their EU, EEA or Swiss relative: fewer documents, no visa fee.
Minors
Under-18s: full birth certificate plus both parents' consent or a custody order.
  • Choosing Business without an invitation from a Maltese company: VFS Global then has you apply as Tourist.
  • Using the EU family route when the EU, EEA or Swiss relative is not travelling with you.
  • Naming Malta or another country as the main destination because its calendar shows more dates: the most nights decide.

Getting the Malta subscription right: people, timing, codes

  1. 1

    Add every traveller

VFS Global wants an appointment per family member. AutoBooking for Malta takes up to five applicants; one Notifications subscription covers everyone.

  2. 2

    Complete every passport profile

The bot books nobody until each applicant's passport and personal details are complete.

  3. 3

    Be ready for any date

With no date-range setting, Malta AutoBooking takes any date with room for the whole group; subscribe when everyone can attend whichever date comes up.

  4. 4

    Count back from departure

London files must be lodged at least 16 calendar days before departure, and VFS quotes three weeks of minimum processing. Subscribe as soon as the trip is set.

  5. 5

    Codes and the final payment

On AutoBooking, VFS login codes reach VisaBot's mailbox; to log in yourself, ask support first. Pay the balance within 48 hours of the payment link, or the booking is cancelled.

Easter, summer, Christmas: when Malta dates are hardest to catch

Malta's High Commission handles a fixed number of applications a day, and VFS Global warns that appointments go very quickly around Easter, in July and August and at Christmas. In busy seasons, the High Commission says, an appointment can be several weeks away.

New Malta dates follow no published schedule, and days may pass before the first alert. AutoBooking passes over dates that do not fit the number of applicants.

A booked appointment is not a visa: VFS Global gives three weeks as the minimum processing time after it, and the High Commission may ask for more documents or an interview.

Before booking Malta: residence status, deadlines, travel papers

British passport holders
No visa for Malta for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Who applies from the UK
Nationals who need a visa, with a valid UK residence permit or eVisa; UK visit visa holders apply in their country of residence.
Main destination
Malta, if it gets the most nights; with equal nights, the Schengen country you enter first.
Booking and submitting
Online on the VFS Global portal, then in person at a centre; the contact centre cannot book.
Fees
Visa fee plus VFS Global service fee per application, paid at the centre; amounts on VFS Global's Malta pages.
Who decides
The High Commission of Malta in London; national D visas are processed by Identità.

The High Commission accepts applications from six months to 15 calendar days before the trip, while VFS Global wants London files at least 16 calendar days before departure.

Holders of UK-issued refugee (1951 Convention) or stateless person's (1954 Convention) travel documents need a visa for Malta whatever their nationality, and Malta does not recognise the UK Certificate of Travel.

What a VisaBot subscription for Malta does not include

  • VisaBot does not fill in or sign the printed Malta application form, check documents or attend the appointment with you.
  • VisaBot is not affiliated with VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS International or any embassy, high commission or consulate.
  • VisaBot does not resell or hold appointments; every Malta booking is in the applicants' names at the official centre.
  • VisaBot cannot add Malta dates, change a booked one or influence the High Commission's decision.

VisaBot is a TREVOR PHILIPS LTD service, company number 14986978 (England and Wales), independent of VFS Global and the Maltese authorities.

Short answers on Malta appointments in the UK

Is London quicker than Manchester or Edinburgh for a Malta visa?

London is quicker after the appointment, not necessarily before it. Manchester and Edinburgh files travel through VFS Global's London office, and VFS advises three extra working days. Dates appear without a known pattern at all three centres, so book a centre every applicant can reach at short notice.

Which category do I pick for a Malta holiday or business trip?

Pick Short Stay Visa, the single Malta category VisaBot offers for UK centres. Holidays, family visits, business trips and EU family trips are all short stays; the purpose changes your documents, not the calendar. A business visit without an invitation from a Maltese company goes in as Tourist.

Why do Malta appointments run out around Easter and in summer?

Appointments go very quickly around Easter, in July and August and at Christmas because the High Commission of Malta handles a fixed number of applications per day, VFS Global explains. VisaBot keeps checking your centre for all 30 days of the subscription.

We are travelling as a family. Does each of us need a Malta appointment?

Yes, VFS Global requires an appointment for each family member, children included. AutoBooking for Malta takes up to five applicants in one subscription and books one date for the whole group, paid per applicant. One Notifications subscription covers everyone too, but you book each appointment yourself.

What does VisaBot do that checking the VFS portal myself doesn't?

VisaBot watches the Malta calendar at your centre without a break, so a new date reaches you as an alert, not by luck. VFS Global's contact centre cannot book or tell when slots will appear. AutoBooking also books the date for you, without holding or reselling slots.

Can I apply at the Malta High Commission in London instead of VFS Global?

No, the High Commission of Malta in London takes short-stay applications through VFS Global's UK centres, so you book on the VFS Global portal. The High Commission still decides on the visa and corresponds strictly in writing. National D visas for longer stays go to Identità.

How long does a Malta visa take after the VFS appointment?

Allow at least three weeks, the minimum processing time VFS Global gives for Malta, plus a few working days for Manchester or Edinburgh files. A request for extra documents or an interview adds time. VisaBot helps with the appointment, not with processing time.

How is VisaBot priced for a Malta appointment?

Notifications cost from £35 a month, and one subscription covers every applicant on it. AutoBooking costs from £100 per applicant; the final amount depends on the visa centre's fee.
