If your passport requires a Schengen visa and your home base is the United States β€” permanent residence, a work visa, a student visa, whatever keeps you here β€” you apply to the consulate of your main destination, and the appointment is taken at a VFS Global or TLScontact centre in one of 10 US cities, from New York and San Francisco to Houston and Miami. VisaBot watches those centres around the clock: Notifications pushes you the second a date opens, AutoBooking takes the slot in your name while you are at work. We are not a consulate or an application centre; the visa decision rests solely with the relevant authorities. On a US passport you need no Schengen visa at all β€” see the FAQ.

Three steps between you and a US appointment slot

  1. 1

Subscribe, on the site or in the app. Destination, US city, visa category. One Notifications subscription covers everyone on the application.

  2. 2

VisaBot watches the centre's own calendar. Most US destinations sit on the VFS Global portal; France is booked through TLScontact, a different system. The bot re-checks day and night β€” no US centre publishes a release schedule, which is why a machine beats a browser tab.

  3. 3

A date appears. Notifications sends the alert; AutoBooking completes the booking at the official centre, in your name.

After months of trying unsuccessfully to get an appointment with the VFS office in Houston, to get a Visa to Portugal, we engaged VisaBot. … They very quickly got us an appointment during the time we needed.

A family of four in Chicago going to Portugal.

One Notifications subscription covers all four, so if somebody can react to a push during the day it is the cheaper route. On busy routes, though, a date disappears in the time it takes to log in β€” that is what AutoBooking is for.

You live nowhere near a centre.

From Denver, Phoenix or Nashville the nearest are Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles or San Francisco, so a date three days out may be useless once you price the flight. Set a date window you can travel on; nearly every US route supports one.

The 17 destinations, in the order US subscribers ask for them

  • Portugal
  • France
  • Austria
  • Denmark
  • Netherlands
  • Croatia
  • Lithuania
  • Finland
  • Latvia
  • Estonia
  • Iceland
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Bulgaria

Plus Slovakia and Slovenia, which are monitored too.

France is the deepest route here (about 200 of the 729) and the only destination booked through TLScontact. Italy, Germany, Spain and Greece are not monitored from the US today β€” some of those consulates use systems we don't cover, such as BLS International. The live list for your city is in the app and on the full list of countries VisaBot covers.

What actually happens when AutoBooking takes a US slot

The moment a date appears, the bot books it at the official centre using the applicant details you gave at subscription. The appointment is created in your name; VisaBot never holds or resells a slot.

  1. 1

Applicant data up front Names and passport details as the centre will see them, plus your date window.

  2. 2

The one-time code. Centres send an OTP to the mailbox the account was opened with β€” VisaBot's system email. Before you log into the VFS site yourself, tell VisaBot support so they can pass you the code; it lives only minutes.

  3. 3

The centre's own fee. VFS Global routes are paid in two stages: a prepayment per applicant, then the balance once a date is booked. On TLScontact routes β€” how France is booked from the US β€” AutoBooking, where offered, is paid in full up front, because that centre charges more at this stage. Dollar amounts: the app; the VisaBot FAQ shows the UK schedule in pounds.

If the booked date doesn't suit you,

it depends on the operator: on VFS Global routes you can decline the balance, but the prepayment is gone β€” it covered the centre's booking fee; on TLScontact routes you have already paid in full. Either way the bot cannot swap the date, and you would start a new subscription.

If there are no slots at all,

the subscription keeps watching for its full 30 days β€” you are not buying a queue position, no such thing exists. Waitlist destinations are supported on both plans.

No US centre releases new dates on a published pattern.

We find out in real time, by watching β€” which is also why nobody can honestly sell you a release schedule.

no slot is guaranteed; the appointment is booked at the official centre; the visa decision is made solely by the relevant authorities.

When the centre's own site fights back: common errors on the VFS Global website.

How long does it take to get an appointment from the US?

Across the appointments AutoBooking has caught for US applicants since May 2024, the median from subscribing to a booked appointment is about 13 days. A middle, not a promise: half took longer, roughly one in ten ran past two months. It is time to the appointment, not to the visa.

What moves it

  • the destination
  • the city
  • the category
  • the season

A deep route like France behaves nothing like a consulate with a handful of dates.

After the appointment a second clock starts, and it is not ours

A short-stay decision
usually lands within roughly 15 calendar days, and can run to 45 when an application needs closer examination
The application window
generally opens six months before travel

Applying for a Schengen visa from the US: the minimum you need to know

The short version β€” the part that decides whether a subscription makes sense. Depth is in the blog and the FAQ.

QuestionThe answer for the United States
Who applies here
Anyone lawfully based in the US β€” permanent residence, work, study or another status β€” whose passport requires a Schengen visa. US passport holders do not.
Which consulate
Whichever consulate owns your main destination β€” the country you will spend the most nights in. Equal nights: the country you enter first.
Where the appointment happens
VFS Global for most destinations, TLScontact for France, in one of the 10 cities above.
Visa categories we monitor
Tourism, Business, Transit, family visits, short-stay and short-term applications. France alone splits short stay into roughly sixteen purposes (study, professional placement, medical care, marriage to a French national…), so pick the exact one. A few routes cover long-stay applications.
What the centre asks at booking
Applicant details exactly as in the passport, plus your date range. No US route we monitor flags a selfie or liveness check at booking.
Government fee
Roughly €90 for an adult and €45 for a child aged 6–12, nothing under 6, billed in dollars at the consulate's exchange rate, on top of the centre's own service fee.
Who decides
The consulate. VisaBot does not issue visas and does not influence decisions.

Three things VisaBot does not do

  • We don't issue visas and we don't influence decisions β€” no legitimate service can.
  • We are not affiliated with VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS International or any embassy, consulate or government body.
  • We don't resell or hold appointments: every booking is in your name, at the official centre.

Schengen appointments from the US: questions we get every week

Do I need a Schengen visa if I travel on a US passport?

No. US passport holders make short Schengen trips without one; what visa-free travellers will complete instead, once it launches, is ETIAS, a European travel authorisation filled in online β€” no centre, no appointment, no biometrics. VisaBot exists for the other group: people based in the US whose passport does require a Schengen visa.

Can VisaBot help me if I'm a US resident with a non-US passport?

Yes β€” that is exactly who this page is for. Permanent residents, work-visa and student-visa holders alike: your application goes to the consulate of the country you will spend the most nights in, and the appointment is booked at a VFS Global or TLScontact centre here in the US. VisaBot watches those centres and either alerts you or takes the slot in your name.

Which US cities have Schengen visa centres that VisaBot monitors?

Ten: San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, Atlanta and Seattle β€” 729 monitored routes. San Francisco and New York reach all 17 destinations we track.

Why aren't Italy, Germany, Spain or Greece on your US list?

They are not monitored from the US at the moment: some of those consulates book through systems we don't cover here, such as BLS International. The live list is in the app and at visabot.eu/countries.

How long does VisaBot take to catch an appointment from the US?

Across appointments booked for US applicants since May 2024 the median was about 13 days. Half took longer and about one in ten ran past two months. It measures time to the appointment, not to the visa.

Does one subscription cover my whole family?

One Notifications subscription covers every traveller on the same application. AutoBooking is priced per applicant. Subscriptions run 30 days and never renew automatically.

What happens if AutoBooking books a date I can't make?

That depends on the operator. On VFS Global routes you can decline to pay the balance, but the prepayment is not refundable β€” it covered the centre's booking fee. On TLScontact routes (France) you have already paid in full. Either way the bot cannot move you to another date, so set a realistic date window when you subscribe.

When do US visa centres release new appointments?

There is no known pattern and nobody can tell you in advance. VisaBot finds out in real time, by checking the centre's calendar continuously.
