VFS Global takes Italy applications in three UK cities; every applicant attends in person. There is no Italy centre in Birmingham or Cardiff.

London — VFS Global

Italy Visa Application Centre, Ground Floor, 8–20 Pocock Street, London SE1 0BW. Both Italy categories can be booked here.

Manchester — VFS Global

50 Devonshire Street North, Manchester M12 6JH. Manchester takes both Italy categories and is the nearer option for much of northern England.

Edinburgh — VFS Global

VFS Joint Visa Application Centre, 1 Rennie's Isle, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6QT. The Italian consulate in Edinburgh directs residents of Scotland and Northern Ireland here.

Choose by where you live and what you can reach at short notice. The Italian consulate in London lists England, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands as its district.

Two Italy categories in the booking system: pick by length of stay

VFS Global offers two appointment categories for Italy in the UK, and VisaBot watches the one on your subscription.

Tourist/ Business/ EU Family: Stays of up to 90 days: holidays, visits to a host in Italy, business trips, and family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens.
National Visa D (Long stay Visa): Stays over 90 days: study, work, family reunification, elective residence. British citizens planning a long stay may need it too.

Italy timing: from the first alert to the consulate's decision

VFS Global releases Italy dates in the UK on no known schedule, and VisaBot cannot predict the next batch. The first alert can take several days, since new dates do not appear every day.

On AutoBooking, dates outside your window or not fitting the number of applicants are skipped, so a wider window helps. A face scan does not hold the date, so a booking can take a few attempts.

An appointment is not a visa. After the visit to the centre, the Consulate General of Italy in London takes 15 to 45 days to process a Schengen visa and up to 90 days for a national visa, and processing cannot be rushed.

What the Italian consulate in London asks of UK applicants

Document lists by visa type are on the Italian consulate's pages.

Main destination: Apply to Italy if you spend the most nights there; with equal stays, apply where you first enter the Schengen area.
Who can apply in the UK: Lawful UK residents; UK visit visa holders are not eligible. British citizens need no visa for up to 90 days in 180.
Who decides: The Consulate General of Italy in London, for applications from across the UK.
Booking and visit: VFS Global: short-stay appointments in its Italy Global app, then an in-person visit to the centre.
Fees: A consular visa fee plus a VFS Global service charge; amounts are on the official pages.
When to apply: No earlier than six months and no later than 15 calendar days before the trip.

Family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens apply under simplified rules, with the visa fee waived when every requirement is met. Family members of UK nationals covered by the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement get the same facilitations.

Which UK city should I book my Italy visa appointment in?

Pick the VFS Global centre in London, Manchester or Edinburgh that you can reach at short notice. The Italian consulate in Edinburgh directs residents of Scotland and Northern Ireland to the Edinburgh centre. There is no Italy centre in Birmingham or Cardiff, so applicants from the Midlands and Wales go to London or Manchester.

Should I choose Tourist/ Business/ EU Family or National Visa D?

Choose by how long you will stay in Italy. Tourist/ Business/ EU Family covers trips of up to 90 days, including business travel and family members of EU citizens. National Visa D covers longer stays for study, work, family reunification or elective residence. VisaBot support can switch the category if you picked the wrong one.

VFS shows no Italy appointments. What can VisaBot do?

VFS Global's booking system asks for them on Italy routes, not VisaBot. In all three cities, short-stay bookings need a photo of each passport, a selfie and a live face scan per applicant, and National Visa D in Manchester needs the scan too. On AutoBooking, VisaBot sends the scan link once a date is found, so keep your phone close.

How is VisaBot different from checking the Italy Global app myself?
