France visa appointment in the US: TLScontact in 10 cities

A traveller checking VisaBot alerts on a phone

VisaBot is independent of TLScontact, France-Visas and the French Consulate, does not sell or hold appointments, and has no say in the visa decision, which belongs to the consulate.

France visa appointments for US residents are booked with TLScontact, at centers in New York, Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. On this route VisaBot sends Notifications: the bot watches the calendar for your city and visa category and alerts you when a date opens, and you book it in your TLScontact account. The French Consulate in Washington DC decides on the visa.

After months of trying unsuccessfully to get an appointment with the VFS office in Houston, to get a Visa to Portugal, we engaged VisaBot. … They very quickly got us an appointment during the time we needed.

France from the US: VisaBot alerts, you book at TLScontact

The bot does the watching, and you do the booking.

  1. 1

Choose a center and a category

In the VisaBot form, pick the TLScontact city you can attend and the France category you will book.

  2. 2

The bot reads the TLScontact calendar

VisaBot checks the France calendar for that city and category day and night, so you stop reloading TLScontact.

  3. 3

    Your phone gets the alert

As soon as a France date appears, the VisaBot app sends a push alert to your phone, with email alerts as an extra option.

  4. 4

    You book it in TLScontact

Log in to TLScontact and take the date yourself, in your name, directly with the official center.

The bot works with published TLScontact dates: it cannot create or reserve a France appointment and makes no bookings on this route.

Ten TLScontact centers, and your state doesn't limit the choice

France-Visas lets US residents book any of the ten centers, whatever their state; each takes your file and, where required, your fingerprints at the booked time.

Every US file goes to the consulate in Washington DC, so your choice of center changes where you go, not who decides.

France short-stay categories: the alert follows the one you pick

The VisaBot form for France from the US lists 20 short-stay categories, named as in TLScontact.

Short stay - Tourism / Private visit
Holidays, sightseeing or staying with friends in France, up to 90 days.
Short stay - Business trip
Work trips to meet French clients or partners, or to attend a trade show.
Short stay - Family visit
Visiting relatives who live in France.
Short stay - Private visit / spouse of French national
The foreign husband or wife of a French citizen.
Short stay - Family of EU/EEA/Swiss national
Non-EU relatives of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, traveling together or to join them.
Short stay - Student / Examination Entry
A short course in France, or a trip to sit an entrance exam.
Short stay - Medical care
Going to France for medical treatment.
  • Using a short-stay category for more than 90 days in France: semesters abroad and long internships need a long-stay visa, which these alerts don't cover.
  • Defaulting to Tourism / Private visit when a family entry fits: spouses of French nationals and relatives of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens have their own categories.

Setting up France alerts that you can act on

  1. 1

    Finish the France-Visas form first

TLScontact expects the France-Visas application before booking, so an alert won't catch you halfway through the form.

  2. 2

Pick a center you can reach

Any of the ten centers is open to you; favor one you could reach within a day or two.

  3. 3

Use the category you will book

Match the category you will select in TLScontact; VisaBot support can switch it if plans change.

  4. 4

One subscription for the whole trip

Notifications covers all travelers under one subscription, so a family heading to France together sets up a single watch.

France timing: when dates appear, and how long the consulate takes

TLScontact gives no timetable for new France dates, and VisaBot has no advance knowledge of them either. Dates don't appear every day, so a first alert can take a few days, and France-Visas itself notes that in busy periods an appointment can take longer to get.

An appointment is not a visa. The French Consulate in Washington DC reviews each file after the TLScontact visit; France-Visas asks you to allow at least 15 days for processing and offers no expedited route, so book a date that leaves that margin before departure.

What France asks of applicants who live in the US

Main destination
France, if you visit no other Schengen country, stay longest there, or enter Schengen there when stays are equal.
Who can apply from the US
Green card and US visa holders whose passport needs a Schengen visa; status valid 90 days past return, plus a recent I-94 for visa holders.
Application and booking
France-Visas form online first, then a TLScontact appointment; France's US centers are TLScontact, not VFS Global.
When to apply
No earlier than six months before departure, and France-Visas suggests keeping 15 days or more between appointment and departure.
Fees
Consular fee paid in US dollars by Mastercard or Visa card, plus TLScontact's service fee; amounts are on the official sites.
Who decides
The French Consulate in Washington DC, for every application filed in the US.

Under EU rules, a non-EU spouse, child or dependent relative accompanying or joining an EU citizen in an EU country other than that citizen's own should get a free visa through an accelerated procedure.

The parts of a France application VisaBot doesn't touch

  • On France from the US, the bot makes no bookings: VisaBot sends alerts, and you book each date yourself in TLScontact.
  • VisaBot does not sell, hold or reserve TLScontact appointments and cannot add dates to the calendar.
  • VisaBot does not fill in France-Visas forms, review documents or file applications.
  • Each Notifications subscription ends after 30 days and is not renewed or charged again automatically.

VisaBot is a service of TREVOR PHILIPS LTD, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 14986978, with no affiliation to TLScontact, France-Visas, the French Consulate in Washington DC or any government body.

France appointments at TLScontact in the US: your questions

Which US city should I choose for my France visa appointment?

Any of the ten: France-Visas lets US residents book whichever TLScontact center suits them, and the decision is made in Washington DC wherever you file. Choose a city you can reach on short notice, because a date next week is wasted if you cannot get there.

Which TLScontact category should I pick for a France visa?

The one matching the main purpose of your trip, as TLScontact names it: Short stay - Tourism / Private visit for holidays, Short stay - Business trip for meetings, and separate entries for spouses of French nationals, EU families, students and medical care. The bot watches the category saved in your subscription, so choose it before subscribing.

What can I do if TLScontact shows no France appointments?

Keep a watch running for your center and category: TLScontact adds France dates with no published schedule, and VisaBot sends a push alert as soon as one appears. If you can travel, watching a second US center as well widens the search, since France accepts US residents at any of the ten.

Can one VisaBot subscription cover my whole family for France?

Yes. Notifications is sold as one subscription for all travelers, so a family of four going to France together needs one subscription, not four. The alert tells you a date has opened at your center; whether that date has room for the whole group shows when you book in TLScontact.

Why use VisaBot instead of checking TLScontact for France dates myself?

VisaBot saves you the watching. By hand, you reload the TLScontact France page again and again; the bot runs that check continuously and pings your phone once a date shows up. The booking itself is the same: you sign in to TLScontact and take the slot.

Do I need a TLScontact appointment if I had a Schengen visa before?

Not if you qualify for postal filing. For a short-stay visa with France as the main destination, TLScontact accepts applications by mail from children under 12 and from anyone who gave Schengen fingerprints in the last 59 months, if the file arrives more than 14 days before departure. Other applicants usually book an in-person appointment.

How much do France appointment alerts from VisaBot cost?

Notifications cost from $50 a month, and one subscription covers every applicant on it.
