Austria visa appointment in the US: seven VFS centers by state

A traveller checking VisaBot alerts on a phone

VisaBot has no ties to VFS Global, the Austrian Embassy or the Consulates General; the visa decision rests with the Austrian consular authority.

Your state of residence decides where an Austria visa appointment happens in the US: VFS Global takes applications in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington DC, in three consular districts. VisaBot watches the VFS calendar you choose: Notifications tells you about each new date, AutoBooking books it under each applicant’s name. The Austrian Embassy or a Consulate General issues or refuses the visa.

After months of trying unsuccessfully to get an appointment with the VFS office in Houston, to get a Visa to Portugal, we engaged VisaBot. … They very quickly got us an appointment during the time we needed.

From your state to a booked VFS date: VisaBot on the Austria route

Both plans cover all seven cities and every Austria category VFS lists.

  1. 1

    The bot keeps checking VFS

VisaBot scans the VFS Austria calendar constantly for the center and category you picked.

  2. 2

    Notifications: you take the date

Each new date arrives as a push alert in the app, or by email if you add it; the booking at VFS is yours to make.

  3. 3

    AutoBooking: the bot books it

The bot books a matching date for up to five applicants, each in their own name, within the date range you set.

  4. 4

    Login codes stay with VisaBot

VFS sends its one-time login code to the VisaBot system email, so you do not have to forward codes while the bot books.

VisaBot books dates that VFS Global releases: it cannot add slots, move you outside your district or speed up the consulate’s decision.

Seven VFS Global centers, three consular districts: where your state books

Each state falls under the Austrian Embassy in Washington or the Consulate General in New York or Los Angeles, each with its own VFS centers.

Washington DC — VFS Global

1025 Vermont Ave NW, Floor 2, Washington, DC 20005, not at the Embassy. Embassy district: DC, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia.

Houston — VFS Global

1001 Texas Avenue, Suite 1020, Houston, TX 77002. Embassy district, the nearest option for Texas and Oklahoma.

Miami — VFS Global

2655 S Le Jeune Road, Penthouse 1A, Coral Gables, FL 33134. Embassy district, closest for Florida and Puerto Rico.

New York — VFS Global

128 E 32nd Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10016, not at the Consulate General. New York district, New Jersey to New England.

Chicago — VFS Global

142 E Ontario St, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60611. New York district, the nearer option for Illinois and Ohio.

Los Angeles — VFS Global

Joint Visa Application Centre, 5757 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 504, Los Angeles, CA 90036. Los Angeles district: California and the West.

San Francisco — VFS Global

642 Harrison Street, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94107. Los Angeles district; the Austrian Consulate in San Francisco takes no visa files.

Washington State belongs to the Los Angeles district, not to Washington DC. Austria asks for proof of residence in the district, so choose a center there that you can reach.

Short Stay Application or a visa D category: choosing the Austria calendar

The bot watches the category you pick, and support can change a wrong one; names match the VFS USA booking system.

Short Stay Application
Schengen visa C: tourism, business or visits for up to 90 days in any 180. All seven cities.
Visa - D
National visa D for 91 days to six months, such as a long family visit or a course. All seven cities.
Long Stay Application
Long-stay calendar in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco; VisaBot support confirms if it or Visa - D fits your trip.
  • Booking Short Stay Application for more than 90 days: a stay of 91 days to six months needs a visa D category.
  • Seeking a VFS date for a residence permit or a job seeker visa: both go to the Embassy or a Consulate General instead.
  • Opening VFS Austria pages for the UK or India: US residents book on the VFS site for the United States.

Before AutoBooking starts: dates, travelers and payment for Austria

  1. 1

    Set dates you can keep

Limit AutoBooking to dates you can attend; Austria accepts files up to six months ahead and no later than 15 calendar days before travel.

  2. 2

    Add every traveler

Austria wants a separate appointment per applicant, children included; AutoBooking takes up to five people, named as in their passports.

  3. 3

    Know the two payment steps

AutoBooking on VFS is paid per applicant: a prepayment at signup, which covers the center’s booking fee, then the balance after a booking.

  4. 4

    No selfie needed for Austria

Austria bookings at VFS USA need no passport scan, selfie or face check from you; accurate passport details are what count.

What decides when an Austria date appears, and what follows it

Several things set the pace for an Austria date: the center and category, the time of year, the number of applicants and the width of your date range. VFS does not release dates daily and VisaBot cannot predict releases, so the first alert may take several days.

A booked appointment is not a visa. Austria’s consular pages say an admissible Schengen application is decided within 15 calendar days as a rule, stretching to 45 days if extra checks are required, and a visa D decision can take up to six months.

A booked date that stops suiting you cannot be swapped by the bot; another date needs a new subscription.

Who may apply for Austria in the US, and where each file goes

Main destination
Austria is the sole or main destination; with no main destination, the country of first Schengen entry handles the visa.
Who applies in the US
Legal residents with a green card or a US resident visa such as H, L, F or J; B1/B2 visitors apply where they reside.
US citizens
No visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 days; the visa-free stay does not allow work.
Where files go
VFS takes visa C and visa D files up to six months; residence permits and job seeker visas go to the Embassy or a Consulate General.
Fees
Listed by the consulates and VFS; consular fees are paid in US dollars and change monthly with the euro rate.
Decision
The Austrian Embassy or Consulate General decides; VFS Global forwards the file and plays no part in the decision.

Family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens travelling with or joining them follow simplified rules and pay no visa fee; VFS still charges its service fee.

What VisaBot does not do for an Austria application

  • VisaBot does not check documents, fill in forms or follow your file after the appointment.
  • No appointment is held back or resold: every booking carries the applicant’s own name at VFS.
  • VisaBot cannot create dates VFS has not released, move you to another district or influence the visa decision.

VisaBot is run by TREVOR PHILIPS LTD (England and Wales, company 14986978, 20 Wenlock Road, London N1 7GU), with no affiliation to VFS Global or the Austrian authorities.

Austria appointments at VFS in the US: questions before you subscribe

Where do I book an Austria visa appointment if I live in Texas or California?

At a VFS center of your consular district. Texas belongs to the Embassy district and books Washington DC, Houston or Miami; California belongs to the Los Angeles district and books Los Angeles or San Francisco. New Jersey, Illinois and Massachusetts are in the New York district, which books New York or Chicago.

Which category fits a tourist trip or a longer stay in Austria?

Short Stay Application, the VFS category for a Schengen visa C, covers trips of up to 90 days in any 180. For 91 days to six months you need a visa D: Visa - D is listed in every city, Long Stay Application in all but Miami and Washington DC, so ask support which one to watch.

What if VFS shows no Austria appointments in my district?

Keep a subscription running instead of checking by hand. For the full 30 days VisaBot scans your center and category and responds once VFS adds dates: an alert with Notifications, a booking attempt with AutoBooking. Dates that VFS does not release cannot be booked by anyone.

How many people can one Austria booking cover?

AutoBooking takes up to five applicants in one subscription and looks for dates that suit the whole group; Austria wants a separate appointment for each of them, children included, and each applicant is paid for separately. A single Notifications subscription serves the whole application.

What does VisaBot add if I can check the VFS Austria site myself?

Constant attention. A new Austria date can go to someone else between two manual checks, while VisaBot keeps scanning and alerts you or, with AutoBooking, books in the applicants’ names. VisaBot uses the public VFS calendar that every applicant sees; it has no back door and holds no slots.

Can H-1B, F-1 or green card holders book an Austria appointment in the US?

Yes. Austria accepts US applications from legal residents: green card holders and holders of a valid US resident visa such as H, L, J, O or F with an endorsed I-20. The status must stay valid for at least three months after you leave the Schengen area. B1/B2 visitors apply in their country of residence instead.

How much does VisaBot cost for an Austria appointment in the US?

Notifications cost from $45 a month, and one subscription covers every applicant on it. AutoBooking costs from $150 per applicant; the final amount depends on the visa centre's fee.
