Two waits on the Portugal route: for a VFS date, then for a decision

For short stays, the Embassy of Portugal asks for files at least 15 days before travel and may take up to 45 days for extra checks. VFS Global quotes 15 working days for Saudi citizens and 20 for other nationals, plus about 48 hours from Jeddah and Dammam.
Portuguese national visas need more room: the Embassy of Portugal quotes up to 30 days for a temporary stay visa and up to 60 days for a residence visa.

What the Embassy of Portugal in Riyadh expects from applicants
- Main destination
- Portugal must be the main destination of the trip for a Schengen visa from the Embassy of Portugal.
- Expat residents
- For a short stay, VFS Global's checklist asks non-Saudi applicants for an iqama valid three months past the return date and a valid re-entry visa.
- Short stay or national
- Up to 90 days means a Schengen visa; longer stays need a Portuguese national visa, issued by the Embassy under Portugal's national rules.
- Fees
- A visa fee set in euros and paid in Saudi riyals, plus a VFS service charge per application, with amounts on the VFS page.
- Who decides
- The Embassy of Portugal in Riyadh, with the Foreign Ministry in Lisbon and Portugal's immigration police.
Family members of EU or EEA citizens under the Free Movement Directive may, under certain conditions, get a free and accelerated Schengen visa procedure.

Booking one makes little sense yet. VisaBot still lists two Portugal job seeker categories, but Portugal's visa portal says the skilled job seeker visa is not yet accepted at consular offices, and the Embassy in Riyadh says the former job search visa ended in October 2025.
